La vida de estos fascinantes insectos se desarrolla fundamentalmente en lugares descubiertos y bien soleados . Son seres de hábitos diurnos y viven sobre la tierra , ramaje o tallos de plantas .
Cuando este insecto descansa , lo hace cruzando sus patas como si estubiera rezando . Por eso se llama mantis religiosa.
Esta predador se camufla para parecer un pedazo de hoja o rama . Además , se mueve muy rápido, especialmente cuando va a atrapar una presa con sus poderosas patas delanteras .
El apetito de la mantis es insaciable , puede comerse casi cualquier insecto con el que se ponga en contacto , inclusive otras mantis , dependiendo el tamaño . Las más jovenes comen áfidos y algodoncillos , que son bichitos que perjudican a las plantas . Amedida que crecen , ingieren insectos un poco más grandes. Y tanto comen animalitos buenos como malos para el jardin .
Existen más de 2.000 especies diferentes de mantis religiosa .
pero algunas de las caracteristicas comunes son:
Color: está dado por el tipo de vegetación con la que se camufla.
Cuerpo : se distinguen tres regienes distintas del cuerpo : cabexa , tórax ( donde estan las patas y las alas ) , abdomen.
Ojos: poseen un par de ojos agtandes y hemisféricos y tras ojossencillos entra los grandes.
Cabeza: puede girar 180 grados, aumantando su campo visual para atrapar mejor a su presa.
Patas: las cuatro patas posteriores le sirven para trasladarse y las dos patas anteriores son del tipo prensor , con las que capturan sus presas.
Cómo caza : no persiguea sus presas . Prefiere quedarse quieta esparando que se la acerquen y las atrapa.
Crías : en octubre la hembra pone entre 200 a 300 huevos que eclocionan entre mayo y junio del año siguiente .
Alas : en general , suelen estar bien desarrolladas.
Impacto en el Ecosistema
Positivo : Las mantis son depredadoras activas y comen otros insectos. Son buenas depredadoras en los jardines, pero no pueden mantener el crecimiento de las poblaciones de algunos insectos y no saben descriminar entre insectos que ayudan al jardín y los que lo dañan.
Negativo : No se conoce ninguno.

Bue' que puedo decir ... nada creo, solo que como la mayoria de los insectos son fascinantes, ah!si hay algo q agregar, para la gente que vivimos rodeados de campo estos bichos son conocidos como Tatadios!!! jaja!. O por lo menos eso me parecio,y ahora q lo pienso hace rato q no veo una... Sugerencia: son interesantes los animales que pasan en "Las criaturas de Nick Baker"(Animal Planet) que son los animales mas raros que he visto.

Que padre esta este post, y hayas hecho un blog sobre animales, me parecio muy interesante lo de la mantis, es uno de mis animales favoritos, aunque no los veo mucho porque el jardin que teniamos en mi casa se seco.
